Hotel Juliani is family-run at heart, and caring for St Julian’s and the Maltese islands is part of how we host. We want every stay to leave good memories and a lighter footprint.

Working towards Green Key
Our journey

Green Key

Green Key is the international eco-label for hotels and other tourism businesses, run by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE). In Malta it is managed by Nature Trust – FEE Malta, and hotels are checked through independent annual audits covering energy, water, waste, cleaning, food, staff training and guest information.

Where we are now. Hotel Juliani has applied for Green Key and is going through the audit process. We will update this page once the award is confirmed.

Every day

What we do

These are the measures already in place across the hotel, Café Juliani and Zest.

Energy & water

  • LED lighting across the hotel.
  • Key-card power in every room, so lights and air conditioning switch off when you leave.
  • A heat pump heats our hot water, using far less energy than a conventional boiler.
  • Water-saving fittings on showers, taps and toilets.

Waste & food

  • Recycling is separated throughout our back-of-house areas.
  • No single-use plastic, such as plastic straws, bottles or miniature toiletries.
  • Refillable dispensers for shampoo, conditioner and shower gel in every room.
  • Local and seasonal produce from Maltese suppliers at Café Juliani and Zest.

Rooms & team

  • Bed linen is changed every third day and towels on request, saving water, energy and detergent.
  • Our team is trained in sustainable practices, from housekeeping to the kitchen.
Small steps

How you can help

  • Hang your towels up if you would like to use them again.
  • Take your key card with you when you go out, so the room powers down.
  • Bring a refillable water bottle on your days out.
  • Explore by public bus or on foot. Our reception team can help you plan the route.
  • Let us know if you notice a dripping tap or anything we could do better.
Explore responsibly

Come potete aiutarci

  • Portate con voi la key card quando uscite, così la camera si spegne.
